June 30: Fly repellent?

There is a ziploc bag of clear liquid hanging outside my neighbor's door. I had no idea why they would do that, so I posted it on Facebook.

Apparently it's some sort of fly repellent. One theory is flies don't like to fly under water, so you are supposed to hang it over the doorway. That's not where the neighbors' have it.

Another theory is the water in the bag magnifies the flies as they approach it and it freaks them out. Again, it's not really in a place a lot of flies would pass. So I have no clue.

The general consensus, though, is it doesn't work.

June 29: Pool's open!

The weather still isn't great but Sammie and Sarah were determined to take advantage of the pool at my apartment complex. They keep complaining about the cold, though.

They've also attracted some attention; a group of resident boys keep walking through the pool area, sneaking glances at the girls as they walk through.

June 27: Arts Festival

Today David and I went to the Recycled Arts Festival in downtown Vancouver. Very cool...lots of vendors all selling things made from recycled objects. There were tons of things I wanted but all I bought was this necklace for Sammie.

June 25: Procrastination

Why do I procrastinate? It never leads to anything good. Like today. I've been spending hours entering employee payroll and expenses. I've had two weeks to do this. Today is the end of the pay cycle. People won't get paid if I don't do this. I kind of have to.

You'd think I'd learn, but I guarantee I'll be in the same place two weeks from now.

This happened when I paused the tv yesterday. I don't think I could do this again if I tried. Totally cracked me up.

June 19: Sand Castles; Cannon Beach

David and I took Alex and his friend Brian to Cannon Beach today for the sand sculpture competition today. I have never been to one before; we had a good time. The boys were a bit hyper, and got whiney when they missed lunch, but all in all it was a nice day. I thought I got some pictures with my phone but for some reason they aren't there. This is all I ended up with.

June 16: Waiting

I'm sitting in the waiting room at the dentist office, waiting for both kids to get their teeth cleaned. I'm trying to keep myself occupied with my iPhone. It's working. However, I'm concerned about the work I'm missing. I have a ton of stuff to do right now.

Sigh.

June 14: Playing catch-up

David is at the hospital waiting to become a grandfather so I'm home alone. So I'm using the time to catch up on some tv I've recorded.

Glee, Castle, etc. Hopefully I can get everything watched before I move in August.

June 12: Sun!

Today was the first sunny day in a long time and we made sure we got out and enjoyed it.

First we went to the Farmer's Market downtown. We didn't buy anything but we did enjoy checking everything out.

Next we went for a walk along the waterfront. The Columbia River is really high right now due to all the recent rain we've had.

I took off my flipflops and waded in. Brrrrr!! Very cold.

June 11: Happy birthday, C

Today is the birthday of someone I was once close to. Even though I haven't spoken to him in roughly 20 years, I still remember that this is his birthday. In fact, when I write the date for today, I automatically write in his birth year instead of the current one. I do that with a few other dates, but not as often as this one. Weird.

June 9: Five Guys hamburgers

Last night David and I ran out to get some dinner and discovered that a 5 Guys hamburger place had opened up nearby. I'd heard that they were pretty good so we checked it out.

It was good! Very simple menu...burgers, hot dogs, fries...but very good. The fries are hand cut and the portions are huge. They were very busy but very quick and professional. We had a good experience and will definitely go back.

June 8: Hummingbirds!

Remember the fuschia from last week? The one David won at his end of year bowling night? Last night we were watching tv in the living room when suddenly he noticed a hummingbird flying around it. It spent several minutes going from flower to flower. I think that's the first hummingbird I've seen in Vancouver.

Which has me wondering: where do hummingbirds hang out when it's raining?

June 7: Chip is a 4-letter word

Twice a year my company does snack chip resets at grocery stores across the US. And twice a year my job becomes almost unbearable. "Major chip company" is a difficult client, at best. It has been a long, exasperating day and I really don't have much to blog about right now.

June 6: World's Dumbest

I am a fan of the show The Smoking Gun Presents: The World's Dumbest _________ . Could be criminals, drivers, daredevils, competitions, but my favorite is criminals. What I love is the commentary provided by the comedians, etc in the show. It never fails to crack me up.

Today is another rainy day in the PNW; it's been a marathon of World's Dumbest.

June 4: Curly!

Got a wild hair (ha!) up my ass and got a perm today. I had the stylist use the biggest rods and wrap the hair vertically. It's still a little tight right now but it will loosen up in a day or two.

I think I'm going to be happy with it.

June 2: Flamingos!!

Here's another picture from the Wildlife Safari. These flamingoes cracked me up, the way they stood and slept on one leg.

BTW, is there are E in "flamingoes" or not? The iPhone says yes, but it looks weird to me.

June 1: Un-Belize-able!

Today was Cruise Booking Day! Woo-hoo! I went back and forth on whether or not I could afford to go, and in the end decided there was no way I could miss it. I'll figure something out, I usually do.

At any rate, Feb 6-11 I'll be cruising in the Caribbean with Barenaked Ladies and Guster. Ports are in Costa Maya and Belize. I can't wait!!
